Prices for Most Dairy Products Have Increased
In the second half of September, domestic demand for dairy products was limited, with a reduction of sales of goods by retail chains and reduction of demand for raw milk from milk processing enterprises. A slight activation of demand for fresh dairy products is likely during the winter, according to Georghii Kukhaleishvili, analyst at the Association of Milk Producers of Ukraine (AMP).
Industrial Dairy Farms Increase Raw Milk Production in January-August 2025
Industrial Dairy Farms (IDFs) have increased their raw milk production volumes since the beginning of the year and managed to avoid a drop in yields this summer, thanks to favorable weather conditions and measures to improve cow comfort, reports Georghii Kukhaleishvili, an analyst at the Association of Milk Producers of Ukraine.
Dairy Farm Cow Population Relatively Stable
The cow population is declining due to the ongoing consequences of the war and the relocation of cattle. The reduction in the number of cows is most significant in household farms, while on agricultural enterprises, it remains stable compared to the previous year, reports Georghii Kukhaleishvili, an analyst at the Association of Milk Producers of Ukraine.
Butter Curbs Milk Price Hikes in the EU
Raw milk prices in the EU saw a minor increase in August due to lower yields in several member states. However, a significant rise in the purchase price is unlikely due to falling prices for butter and other commodities, according to Georghii Kukhaleishvili, an analyst at the Association of Milk Producers.
GDT Auction: Raw Milk Surpluses Pressure Commodity Prices
Following the auction, all products except for Cheddar cheese became cheaper. An atypical increase in milk yields in key dairy regions has led to a surplus of raw milk on the market, which has lowered global prices for commodities where supply exceeds demand, reports Georghii Kukhaleishvili, an analyst at the Association of Milk Producers.
Milk Prices Stable, Demand Low
The growth in raw milk prices in Ukraine slowed down in early September, due to the suspension of dairy product exports to the EU and a lack of demand from milk processing plants, reports Georghii Kukhaleishvili, an analyst at the Association of Milk Producers.
Weak Domestic Demand Holds Back Dairy Product Prices
For the past month, certain dairy products in Ukraine have become cheaper due to weak domestic demand for whole milk products, increased cheese imports, and the suspension of dairy product exports to the EU, reports Georghii Kukhaleishvili, an analyst at the Association of Milk Producers.
Dairy Product Prices Decreased Amid Market Uncertainty
In late July, prices for a range of dairy products in Ukraine decreased due to limited consumer demand and an increase in cheese imports. There is a risk that dairy exports to the EU could be suspended, which may lead to goods accumulating in warehouses, a surplus of raw milk on the market, and a further decline in domestic prices, reports Georghii Kukhaleishvili, an analyst at the Association of Milk Producers.
Upward Trend in Raw Milk Prices in Ukraine
In early July, raw milk prices in Ukraine remained stable, but are expected to rise amid increasing butter prices. Following an updated trade agreement with the EU, Ukraine received expanded quotas for dairy product exports, which facilitated the resumption of supplies and led to a raw material shortage in the domestic market, reports Georghii Kukhaleishvili, an analyst at the Association of Milk Producers.
